Circulation Policy
New Residents

Any resident, 18 years and older, of the Brentwood School District, is eligible for a library card. Any resident under 18 MUST have parent or legal guardian present.


Proof of residency, ownership, or property or a business is required.

Proof of residency, including name and street address, is required from one of the following:

• New York State Driver’s License or Non-Driver’s Photo ID.

• New York State automobile registration or insurance card.

• Town of Islip Recreation Card.

• Current NOTARIZED lease agreement on official letterhead.

• Current homeowner’s tax receipt.

• Property Deed.

• Any piece of mail with envelope (utility bill, bank statement, letter), POSTMARKED WITHIN THE LAST TWO (2) MONTHS.

• Residents' cards will be valid for three years

This temporary card will give you immediate access to most online library services. Be sure to come to the library within 30 days to obtain a permanent card as your temporary card will expire.

All children (under 18) who live in Brentwood School District. *In order for children under 18 to use the library’s computers to access the Internet, one of their parents or a legal guardian must come in and sign a permission form.

Lost Library Cards
There is a $1.00 replacement fee for a lost library card.

Reserves may be placed in person, on the phone or online.  There is a limit of reserves per library card.  You will be contacted through e-mail or by phone depending on how you have set up the account.

Materials may be renewed unless they are on reserve for another patron.  Items may be renewed in person, by telephone with your barcode or online. *Materials on loan from other libraries may only be renewed if the lending library agrees. *To utilize our online services, please visit our web page and log into your account. Overdue materials will not renew online.


Interlibrary Loans

Patrons who want to borrow materials from other  libraries can request materials through interlibrary loan.  Loan requests can be made in person, by phone or online.

Note: If you accumulate $25.00 or more in fines on your card, you will be unable to check out materials until your fines are below $25.00.You can renew items over the phone or click on Login to access your account.
